The Daily Mail revealed over the weekend that Arsenal are interested in signing Derby County’s versatile youngster Lee Buchanan.
The 20-year-old has been brilliant for the Rams this term. He has featured at both left-back and left-wing, and his impressive performances have earned him some extraordinary praise from Wayne Rooney.
The Manchester United icon labelled his young defender as a ‘real top player’, and called him ‘one of the best young left-backs in the country’, which really is high praise from a man who has won it all at club level. (Mail)
Arsenal desperately need a new left-back this summer. Kieran Tierney is undoubtedly our first-choice in that position, but the Scotsman has been really unlucky with injuries, and our lack of a natural backup has hurt us.
Cedric Soares and Granit Xhaka have both filled in at left-back, and to be fair to them, they’ve been good there. However, it’s not ideal to have either of them there as it imbalances our side and the way Mikel Arteta wants us to play.
Buchanan is a really interesting option. He is still only 20 and his potential is massive. He can play higher up the pitch as well, and the fact that he will only have one year left in his contract should make a potential deal fairly straightforward.
