The Houssem Aouar to Arsenal transfer saga has been going on for over 12 months now and Tottenham are now set to provide a new twist to the tale.
The 23-year-old is reportedly on the market this summer and Mikel Arteta’s side, after everything that happened last year, have been linked again. The Arsenal boss, however, will face some serious competition this time around.
Le10 Sport claimed this week that the Gunners’ North London rivals have also joined the race to sign Aouar. Spurs’ new sporting director, Fabio Paratici, has liked the Lyon playmaker since he was at the helm at Juventus.
He is set to revive his interest now and if the report is to be believed, Spurs have an edge over the Gunners to sign Aouar this summer.
Tottenham are better placed than Arsenal to sign Aouar
The report claims that Lyon are looking for a fee of around £21.5 million to part ways with Aouar this summer. Arsenal are currently offering £17 million for the Frenchman, but Tottenham are reportedly prepared to offer more.
Spurs’ finances are a lot more flexible than Arsenal’s, according to the report, and that puts them in a better place than Arteta and Edu’s side to complete a deal for Aouar in the coming days.
That, predictably, has alarmed Arsenal fans. Some supporters are now convinced that Aouar will join Tottenham soon, which is painful for the Gunners after our lengthy pursuit throughout last summer’s transfer window.
