Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has shocked a few supporters by claiming that players like Willian are likely to stay at the club for next season.

The Gunners are expected by many to attempt a major overhaul of their squad this summer. There are a number of players who need to go, but if Arteta’s latest comments are anything to go by, that will not be the case.

The Arsenal boss was asked about rumours claiming that Willian would follow David Luiz out of the door. Arteta accepted blame for the Brazilian’s poor performances this term but surprisingly hinted that he’s likely to stay at the club despite all the speculation surrounding his future.

He said, as per Arsenal.com: “First of all we signed a player with incredible talent, a proven talent and performance level in this league.

“This season has been difficult and I take full responsibility because I have to be the one getting the best out of him and we had moments but not to the level that he did before.

“This is an assessment that we will do individually with the players and with Edu, the board and the ownership to make the right decisions for the future. Every player that is under contract is very likely to be here with us next season.”

Arsenal fans are stunned by what Mikel Arteta has just said

If Arteta was just talking about Willian, fans might have let things go. However, the Arsenal boss claimed that every player in the squad is ‘very likely’ to stay, and that has annoyed many supporters.

It is very likely that Arteta is just protecting many players’ value here. He can’t publicly put everyone up for sale and expect to raise funds in the summer, but considering everything we’ve seen from the Kroenkes over the years, we can’t really ignore this, can we?
