TuttoMercatoWeb revealed earlier today that Arsenal are the favourites to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Edmond Tapsoba in the upcoming summer transfer window. (Read more here)

The 22-year-old Burkina Faso international has been a star in Germany over the last 16 months. He has played 61 times for Die Werkself since joining them, and he has impressed almost everyone in that period.

Leverkusen are at no real danger of losing their star defender this summer. Tapsoba is tied down to a contract until the summer of 2026, and any club who wants him will have to be prepared to break the bank.

Arsenal have shown over the last two years that we aren’t too afraid of spending the big bucks. If we feel that a player can come in and make a real difference, we will likely do everything we can to get that deal over the line.

That could well be the case this summer with respect to Tapsoba. The Gunners need a quality replacement for David Luiz, who will be leaving the Emirates at the end of his contract next month.

Arsenal fans are worried about Willian Saliba now

Tapsoba is certainly a good option to replace Luiz. He is young, fast, strong and excellent with the ball at his feet. He has all the qualities to succeed in the Premier League, but Arteta’s interest in him has left some Arsenal fans really worried about William Saliba’s future.

The young French defender will return from his loan spell this summer and fans can’t wait to see him in Arsenal’s colours. However, if Arteta does bring in Tapsoba, Saliba might not get the chances he is hoping for.

That, predictably, has annoyed a few Arsenal supporters.
