
Takehiro Tomiyasu made his Arsenal debut against Norwich City today and it is safe to say that the Japan international is a fan favourite at the Emirates already.
The 22-year-old joined us from Bologna on transfer deadline day. Everybody knew that he was a quality player who would improve us, but very few would’ve expected him to perform as well as he did today.
Tomiyasu started at right-back and he was superb. He was solid defensively, always overlapped and he was almost unbeatable in aerial duels. The Japan international really looks like a top-quality addition and Arsenal fans are in love with him.

In his 61 minutes on the pitch, Tomiyasu won seven aerial duels – more than any other player on the pitch. He registered one tackle, two clearances and was our highest-rated defender as per WhoScored.
On the ball, the 22-year-old made 29 passes in total. He attempted four long balls and had two shots at goal, one of which would’ve been an absolute screamer had it been on target. Sadly, it flew just over the bar.

Overall, Tomiyasu was extremely impressive on his debut. Arteta taking him off after an hour showed that he wasn’t fully fit yet. However, if he was that good after just a couple of days of training, imagine how he will be once he settles in.
