Arsenal transfer expert David Ornstein revealed on The Athletic today that the Gunners have started negotiations over a new long-term contract for Emile Smith Rowe.
The young Englishman has been a breath of fresh air to Arsenal fans since Boxing Day.
My Revenge On Ben Foster
He has played a huge role in helping us turn our season around, and a new contract shows that Mikel Arteta, Edu and co are happy with him as well.
Smith Rowe’s current deal expires in the summer of 2023.
That’s still over two years away, but Arsenal are correct to begin negotiations right away, especially after how badly we messed up with Mesut Ozil and most recently, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Arsenal are set to offer Smith Rowe a lengthy contract on improved terms. The 20-year-old, if he puts pen to paper, will join the likes of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and now Folarin Balogun on long-term deals.
It is clear that Arsenal are prioritising the future by tying up our best young players to long-term contracts. This will protect us if offers do come in from other top clubs, especially for players like Saka and Smith Rowe who have set the Premier League on fire this term.
Arsenal fans, predictably, are delighted with Ornstein’s latest update.
