Gabriel Martinelli has returned to Arsenal training straight after his exploits with Brazil at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

The 20-year-old was only given 28 minutes of game time throughout the competition, but he stepped up when it mattered. He scored an emphatic penalty in the shootout against Mexico in the semi-final to help the Seleção go all the way and win it.

Arsenal fans expected Martinelli to have a little break before returning to London Colney. However, the little Brazilian wasted no time and reported back to training on Monday ahead of the start of the new Premier League season.

Big season for Gabriel Martinelli at Arsenal

Martinelli really struggled to stay fit last season. He went into the campaign with a long-term injury and it took him a while to return. Soon after he came back, he hurt himself again, and that really hampered his progression.

However, whenever the Brazilian was on the pitch, he offered us something different. His energy, drive and directness made us a lot more dangerous than we were without him, and we can’t wait to see more of that next season.

Arsenal fans are praying that Martinelli can remain fit throughout the campaign. With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang struggling to find his feet, we really need someone to step up, and the Brazilian has the quality to do just that.

Gooners are simply blown away by Martinelli’s commitment. Even though he didn’t play as much as he would’ve liked in Tokyo, many felt that he deserved a break, but the 20-year-old flew straight back to London to get ready for the new campaign.
