Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta seems to have annoyed quite a few Newcastle United supporters after his comments about Joe Willock today.
The young Englishman joined the Magpies on loan in January and he has been a huge hit. He scored on his debut there and has managed to find the back of the net in each of his last six Premier League appearances for them.
Newcastle boss Steve Bruce is desperate to keep hold of Willock on a permanent deal, but Arteta has put a stop to that. The Arsenal boss revealed today that the midfielder will surely be at the Emirates next season, which is a huge blow for the Magpies.
Arteta: Willock will be an Arsenal player next season
He said, as per Arsenal.com: “He will come back to us, we will have a conversation with him and plan the next years for him.
“For sure (he’ll be an Arsenal player next season) because he’s got a contract and that’s going to be here. That’s for sure.” (Read more here)
That, predictably, has dampened the mood around Tyneside. Magpies supporters have really taken to Willock, and were even begging him to stay at St. James’ Park after their win over Sheffield United this week.
They are now really gutted that he will not be coming back next season, and they’ve taken some of their frustration out on Arteta.
