During his 18 month tenure at the club, there were many ups and downs. But the former PGS manager has brought in many positive changes. Statically, Unai Emery been one of the best coaches Arsenal has ever had. Let’s have a look at some of the best games under his management!
Fulham vs Arsenal, 7th October 2018 (1-5)
The Gunners defeated Fulham by more than two goals for the first time under Unai Emery. It is actually a game to remember for all Arsenal fans. Both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette produced an excellent display. But the highlight of the game was when Aaron Ramsey scored. The Welsh star made a cheeky backheel which went to the back of the post to conclude the result. This game stands as one of the most dominant displays by Arsenal in recent years.
Arsenal vs Aston Villa, 22nd September 2019 (3-2)
This home game against the Villans is probably the most remarkable match of the season. It encapsulated the campaign perfectly. There were infuriating fouls, defensive ineptitude and some nice finishing by Arsenal’s attackers to save a result. But in many ways, it was also anomalous. Ainsley Maitland-Niles earned a second yellow and was sent off. The Gunners continued to show a surprising amount of composure and fighting spirit.
Arsenal vs Leicester City, 22nd October 2018 (3-1)
Arsenal’s domination in this game was illustrative of Arsenal’s best run of form under Emery. The Gunners were flying high after winning nine straight across all competitions. For the first time in over a decade, it was a match that Arsenal had won 10 straight. It was a magical night by Mesut Ozil, who looked better than he had all season. He assisted Aubameyang on one of the best team goals in the club history. The Gunners were looking like they could have beaten anyone.
Arsenal vs Napoli, 11th April 2019 (2-0)
The quarterfinal draw in the Europa League saw Arsenal matched up with Napoli. Many perceived that it was one of the toughest teams left in the competition. Many said that the attacking line of Napoli would be too much for Arsenal to handle. However, Emery prepared the team well. The Gunners put together a dominant first half. If it wasn’t for Napoli’s keeper, they could have poured in 5 goals on that day. Finally, Arsenal secured their spot in the semi-finals.
Arsenal vs Tottenham, 2nd December 2018 (4-2)
This league game will go down in North London Derby history as one of the best. It had it all – a sideline dustup, antagonistic celebrations, lead changes, penalties on both sides, a sending off for good measure and some of the derbies most memorable goals. It was a masterclass of tactics by Emery. During the second half, he brought on Aaron Ramsey into the attack. The player was crucial in the equalising goal and the winning goal.
Arsenal under Unai Emery gave us many memorable matches. He maintained impressive stats, especially at home. Besides, he has given the Gunners the momentum they lacked.
