Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta spoke about the impressive work Edu Gaspar has done since his arrival and especially in the January transfer window.

Our technical director faced the wrath of supporters for some of his decisions last January and in the summer. The signings of Pablo Mari, Cedric and Willian combined with David Luiz’s contract extension didn’t sit too well with fans.

However, he is now back on the good side of most supporters. Cedric and Mari are turning out to be excellent additions, while Luiz has also been brilliant in our last few games.

Martin Odegaard’s signing was an impressive move, while the way Edu handled the departures of Sead Kolasinac, Mesut Ozil and Sokratis Papastathopoulos were brilliant as well.

Arteta was asked about his opinion of the work the Brazilian has been doing and the Arsenal boss claimed that he has been very impressed.

Arteta: Edu is doing a great job

He said, as per Arsenal.com: “Probably in the last year, I have spoken to Edu more than anyone else in my life!

“That’s what my wife says because of the things we have to go through, with coronavirus as well, the transfers. Luckily enough, we have a great relationship, a great understanding and we support each other in a great way. It is lucky that if you have to talk to someone many times around the deadline day that the relationship is strong.

“I think he is doing a great job at the club since I joined. The clarity that he showed when they came to try to convince me to join the club and then to stick to the plan we have and the way he is going about it, I am really impressed with him.”

Now that the transfer window is done for this season, Arteta has to get the best of the players at his disposal. Our form has been brilliant off late, but a lot of the season is still left to be played, and we have to push for a place in the Champions League next term – either through a top four finish or by winning the Europa League.
