Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has delivered some excellent news in his press conference today ahead of his side’s game against Benfica tomorrow.
The Portuguese giants held us to a 1-1 draw last week and even though a goalless affair tomorrow will send us through to the next round, we should go into the game in Greece looking for a victory.
Arteta was quizzed about his team news ahead of tomorrow’s second-leg. The Arsenal boss has some excellent news concerning Thomas Partey.
He told Arsenal.com: “Thomas is very close. He’s got a final test today in training. If he’s feeling good, he will be available to play the match.”
Partey’s return is massive news for Arsenal, but Arteta has some bad news regarding Rob Holding.
“Regarding Rob, he’s not available. He had a concussion, we tested him and he’s completely fine but obviously now we need to follow the protocols and he won’t be able to travel,” he said.
Arsenal Insider’s view:
Partey’s return is a humongous boost for us. The Ghanaian has barely been able to get a consistent run of games for Arsenal since he joined us back in October.
Injuries have been cruel to him, but he has made a big difference when he has played. His performance against Manchester United at Old Trafford earlier in the season is arguably the best individual display by an Arsenal player this term.
If he can stay fit until the end of the campaign, Arsenal’s chances of success will increase massively. However, Arteta should not rush him back before he’s 100 per centfit – just like he did against Tottenham earlier this season.
