Mikel Arteta sends message to Arsene Wenger about Arsenal return

Mikel Arteta and Arsene Wenger met each other at the world premiere of the latter’s movie at the Finsbury Park Picturehouse last night.

The legendary Frenchman left Arsenal over three years ago and he hasn’t returned to the Emirates since. Most of us want Wenger in and around the club in some capacity, but he has preferred to distance himself.

Arteta played under Wenger and knows him really well. If there’s one person who can bring the 72-year-old back to the Emirates, it’s the Spaniard, and he has urged him to return in the very near future.

Arteta: Wenger back at Arsenal will benefit everyone

The Arsenal boss told Sky Sports: “I would like him to be more present at the club.

“I think the players would love him, benefit, and be inspired to have him around and I think for the club it would be a huge boost.

“It was so intense for him for over 20 years and you need to get away a little bit, but I think it would be so beneficial for all parties to have him more present.”

The Insider’s View:

Irrespective of what you thought of Wenger during his final few years at Arsenal, you have to admit that he knows more about the game than most other people in world football.

Arsenal’s whole setup is an extremely inexperienced one. Our squad is the youngest in the Premier League, our manager and technical director are both in their first big jobs, and there’s a lot to learn for all of them.

Wenger in an advisory role could really change our fortunes. The players will benefit from him and if Arteta and Edu ever need any help, the legendary Frenchman’s experience and insight could solve multiple problems.

It will be interesting to see if Wenger accepts Arteta’s invitation. We really hope he does, but he’s a busy man at FIFA these days and the best he could do is maybe come back to the Emirates to watch a few games.
