'Personality, intelligence, energy': Arteta blown away by 'magnificent' Arsenal star against Spurs

Arsenal once again proved that North London is red after a brilliant win over Tottenham on Sunday.

The Gunners started the game brilliantly.

We were all over Spurs and they were chasing shadows for most parts of the first half. A Hail Mary goal from Erik Lamela gave them the lead, but they did nothing apart from that before the break.

Arsenal’s main attacking threat came from our left flank. Emile Smith Rowe and Kieran Tierney made Matt Doherty’s life miserable and Mikel Arteta heaped praise on the former’s ‘magnificent’ display.

He said, as per Arsenal.com: “I think he (ESR) had a magnificent performance again as well.

“I think he shows not only quality but his personality, his intelligence on the pitch, his energy. He gives us something different. Today, in a derby, you need some individual performances and for sure, he had one.”

Arsenal Insider’s view:

Smith Rowe was absolutely brilliant yesterday. The Englishman didn’t give Doherty a moment’s peace and he was just inches away from scoring an outrageous goal in his North London derby debut.

The 20-year-old had 57 touches of the ball, completed 36 passes while maintaining a stunning passing accuracy of 97%. He also completed four key passes in his 77 minutes on the pitch – more than the entire Spurs squad combined. (SofaScore)

Arteta was absolutely delighted with Smith Rowe and so were all Arsenal supporters. Hopefully, he can carry this on until the end of the season and beyond to help us achieve our ambitions.
