Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was quizzed about Daniel Ek’s interest in buying the club and Stan Kroenke’s statement addressing the same yesterday.

The Swedish billionaire has been very vocal about his interest in Arsenal. He revealed on Twitter last week that he’d like to buy the club, and if reports are to be believed, he is plotting a plan with Gunners legends Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and Patrick Vieira to takeover.

However, the Kroenkes have quickly put a stop to that. They released a statement yesterday where they claimed that they will not entertain any offers from Ek or anyone else as they have no plans to sell the club. (Read the full statement here)

Arteta: Kroenke’s statement is very clear

Arteta was asked about the statement and he said, as per Arsenal.com: “Yes, we spoke to them (KSE) and I think it was very clear. They show their commitment and their ambition to the football club because we all want a successful team on the pitch. It was very clear and it took any doubts out of the situation I think.

“I think it closes a lot of the speculation about what could happen. They moved straightaway and they made very clear lines of where they are standing and what they want to do with the football club. And that’s it, one thing doesn’t take the other, that the fans express themselves and their opinion, which is completely normal.”

Asked about Ek’s interest, he said: “I cannot control the speculation and what is going on.

“What I’d like to know and talk about is the reality, and the reality is that we have owners that are really, really committed and that they want a successful team on the pitch. They’re going to do everything they can to achieve that. This is what we have and I feel fully supported by them.”

The Insider’s View:

Well, the reality is that the Kroenkes have no intention of going anywhere anytime soon. They’re here to stay and Arteta has to find a way to keep his squad focused amid all the speculation that will float around in the coming weeks.

It will be interesting to see if Ek will stay around after the statement. He claimed today that he is in it for the long-haul, but it will be extremely difficult for him to push the Kroenkes out.

The one positive to come out of this, perhaps, is that the Kroenkes know that there is someone waiting to pounce to snatch what’s theirs. Hopefully, that will push them to invest and back the club to get us back to the very top.
