Former Arsenal boss Unai Emery faced the media today ahead of his Villarreal side’s big game in the Europa League tomorrow night.

The Spaniard spent 16 months at the helm at the Emirates after replacing Arsene Wenger. He had a decent debut season as Arsenal boss, but things turned sour in his second campaign and he was shown the door.

My Revenge On Ben Foster

As much as he wants to deny it now, Emery will be looking for revenge against the club that sacked him. He would love nothing more than to inflict some pain on us, and he has all the inside intel on the Arsenal players he has worked with in the past.

“Having been at Arsenal gives me knowledge about certain players that can be useful perhaps,” said Emery, as per Football London. “I will try to instil that into my players but they can also have knowledge about how I worked at Arsenal.

“We analyse our opponents the recent games the previous games and the moments of form and footballer availability right now.

“I expect the best version of Arsenal and Arsenal with their best players. I don’t know if they will be there or not but I expect it. We need to have maximum respect for Arsenal.”

The Insider’s View:

Emery will certainly know a few things about some Arsenal players. He worked with them on a daily basis for 16 months, and he will surely try to exploit all of their weaknesses.

However, a lot has changed since the Spaniard left. Mikel Arteta’s system is completely different to what Emery used during his time at Arsenal. The players’ positioning on and off the ball are different, and the way we build up is also nothing like how we did under our former boss.

Emery will be looking for blood in tomorrow’s game, while Arteta has to get the victory to keep our season alive. Hopefully, we can bring a positive result back to the Emirates for the second leg next week.
