'We've to be honest': Arteta makes truthful admission after Arsenal's latest win

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has admitted that his side got lucky yesterday in Greece against Olympiacos.

The Gunners came out of the game with three away goals and one foot in the next round of the competition. The performance, in general, was really good, but our habit of shooting ourselves in the foot just doesn’t look like it’ll go away any time soon.

My Revenge On Ben Foster

Arsenal made three very poor errors that led to shots last night. All three should’ve resulted in goals, but Olympiacos only managed to capitalise on one of our mistakes, and Arteta has admitted that we can’t keep doing this to ourselves every week.

He said, as per Arsenal.com: “I think the difference is really big and we are really pleased with the result and the goals that we scored, and the way that we played in big moments in the game.

“But as well we’ve to be very clear and honest with ourselves that we gave three goals to the opponent and they took one, and at that level, they are going to punish you.

“So, to go to the next level, we have to stop doing that and be more ruthless – and when you are that dominant and playing that well, just kill the game.”

Arsenal Insider’s view:

Whatever your opinion is about Arteta, you simply cannot deny that he has made Arsenal a very difficult side to beat. We are a lot more organised and teams genuinely struggle to break us down.

That should make us one of the top teams in the country, but we’ve developed a terrible habit of gifting goals to our opponents almost every week. That is the biggest reason why we are where we are in the Premier League table.

If we can stop doing that in the Europa League until the end of this season, our chances of winning the competition will probably double. However, if we keep making silly errors, it’s only a matter of time before one of them knocks us out and ends our season.
