Club football takes a break this weekend as our attention turns to World Cup playoff and warm-up games. A number of Arsenal players are in their national squads and could get game time over the coming week ahead of the tournament in Russia next summer.
Northern Ireland v Switzerland
After losing only once in the qualifying group Switzerland are perhaps a little unlucky to be in the playoffs. They face a tricky away trip to Northern Ireland tonight before the return leg early next week. Granit Xhaka is in the squad for these games and has been a regular feature for the national side. He has tournament experience after playing at Euro 2016 in France and will be aiming to continue that into next summer.
Ghana v Egypt
Egypt are already assured of a place at next summers World Cup but play their final group game at Ghana on Sunday. Ghana could go second in the group but with only one defeat so far, Egypt will be looking to build momentum ahead of the summer. Mohamed Elneny has 57 caps for his country and should play against Ghana as he aims to be in the squad going to Russia.
Algeria v Nigeria
Alex Iwobi could add to his 11 caps in this game as already qualified Nigeria take on bottom of the group Algeria. Algeria have had a disappointing campaign picking up just one point from their five games so far. Iwobi has scored twice for his country and if he gets minutes this week he will hope to add more to impress the national coach.
France v Wales
Laurent Koscielny could be in line to gain his 50th cap for France when they take on Wales. He announced his retirement from international football this week and will aim to bow out on a high after the World Cup. Olivier Giroud and Alexandre Lacazette were also called into the squad for the two friendlies but the former picked up an injury in training. The club awaits more news on the extent of that injury and when he will be fit to play.
France v Wales
After missing out on a place in the playoffs, Wales have time to assess their options before the next competitive campaign. Aaron Ramsey is in the squad for the games against France and Paraguay as those sides warm up for Russia 2018.
England v Germany
Mesut Ozil is int he squad to take on England at Wembley. The 2014 World Cup winner could earn his 87th cap if he plays as Germany prepare to try and retain the title in Russia. Ozil will not be facing off against any of his Arsenal teammates though as none were called up to the England squad this time.
