Arsenal return home on Sunday following a lengthy midweek trip to Belarus and welcome Brighton to the Emirates. Both sides have won two of their last three games but it is Arsenal who sit higher in the league. They are now three points behind 4th place and could close the gap with a win here. Arsenal have won all three home league games this season and could make it four given that Brighton are yet to win on the road.
Chelsea face their toughest test of the season so far as they welcome Manchester City. City are unbeaten so far this season and top the table with five wins from six. It was a home 2-1 victory in this fixture last season as Eden Hazard scored twice to earn the three points. After the late win in Madrid this midweek, Chelsea go into the weekend looking to close the three-point gap to the top. The Blues defence will surely come under pressure as City have scored 16 times in the last three games.
Tottenham have won all of their away games this season and travel to Huddersfield on Saturday lunchtime. Huddersfield have kept four clean sheets already this season but face a Spurs side which has scored three in their last two away trips. Huddersfield have lost just once this season but no win in four has seen them slip to 8th in the table. Tottenham sit 4th but have already lost ground to the top three.
Unbeaten Manchester United are 2nd on goal difference and host winless Crystal Palace. The away side have not scored at Old Trafford since 2004 and so their goalless start to the season may continue. Crystal Palace have never beaten United in the Premier League or even gotten so much as a draw in Manchester.
Both Bournemouth and Leicester have won just once this season and need to start putting points on the board soon. A win for Bournemouth would lift them out of the bottom three, likely to be replaced by the foxes. Leicester haven’t beaten Bournemouth in the four league meetings but there have been three draws. This fixture last season was a 1-0 win for the home side.
Last seasons meeting between Stoke City and Southampton was a drab 0-0 but mainly thanks to an early red card. 2014 was the last time there were more than three goals in this fixture but having lost 4-0 last weekend the home side will need to defend better. Southampton haven’t lost away so far this season but have found goals hard to come by.
Watford travel to West Brom having lost just once this season so far and currently lie 6th in the league. There were two league meetings between the pair at the Hawthorns in 2016 and both sides won a game each. West Brom haven’t won in four games and have slipped down the league after an impressive start.
West Ham United won their last home game against Swansea 1-0 but go into this game in the bottom three. Swansea are not in much better form and are 15th in the league at this time. Both sides lost their last match at home having drawn the previous week but Swansea are yet to lose on the road this season.
Due to European commitments, Everton must wait until Sunday to face Burnley at home. The away side have lost all three Premier League trips to Goodison Park but are unbeaten away from Turf Moor this season. Both of Everton’s league wins have come at home. Last season was a 3-1 win to Everton but Burnley have lost just once so far in this campaign.
Newcastle vs Liverpool has provided some classic Premier League games down the years and the neutral will be hoping for more of the same on Sunday. Both sides have had mixed form of late but Liverpool look the stronger side having lost just once this season. 2015 was the last meeting at Saint James’s Park in the league but you have to go back to April 2013 for the last away win.
The side which takes to the field at the Emirates on Sunday should be completely different to the one playing midweek so there should be no tiredness. Arsenal need to be beating Brighton at home if they are to harbour any ambition to crack back into the top four. A win in this game will at least allow them to keep pace with the top four and could help close the gap on some if they slip up.
