Arsenal v Sevilla Pre-Match Report

Tonights game brings one of the most exciting sides in Europe to the Emirates; a game that i am absolutely delighted we’ve got at this stage in the season. The last thing we need in the midst of a focussed, technically excellent run in the Premiership is a downbeat Euro Group game against someone like the 5th placed team in Norway…

Sevilla have quality all over the pitch, this is their Champions League debut and they have all grown together (and with the tragic death of young Antonio Puerta, that bond will only be stronger). This will keep the side occupied for 90 minutes will be a good level and hopefully keep us ticking over before the forthcoming league games where we should be picking up 3 points.

There’s rumours abounding that Gilberto might make way tonight, due to Senderos’ return to the side i for one would probably keep Gilberto in the Centre of defence as Senderos is as always an accident waiting to happen. But i am absolutely in favour of keeping Flamini in the side, he has been the most improved player this season, even ahead of Hleb. His energy and running has been at odds with the sometimes lacksadaisacal approach of someone like Diaby and he deserves to be rewarded for his efforts.

Unlike some of our illustrious rivals we haven’t felt the need to do rest players at this stage, we’ve had injuries to people like Sagna and we made a sort of tactical decision with Rosicky on Saturday but all in all we are playing the best 11 for each game. This is paying dividends with our league position and with the momentum we have been building since pre-season (our last defeat coming away in Austria in July). All in all a very positive start to the season, some of the best football i;ve seen since 2004 and a big European game to look forward too.

I’m sure you all know about the Sevilla team but my ones to watch are:

Dani Alves- Right back, Right midfield, Striker he plays everywhere, and it should be an entertaining battle between him and Gael.

Jesus Navas- Top player, rarely travels well, hopefully he’ll be on a downer tonight.

Kerzhakov- If he plays instead of Fabiano he can be a deadly finisher, watch what he can do in an attacking team as opposed to the turgid Russia of last week.

I’m predicting 1-1, which would be a good result.
