Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares is currently considering his options ahead of making a summer move.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Nottingham Forest’s move for Nuno Tavares has fallen through, as they weren’t able to reach a deal for the Arsenal left-back.

Tavares is now already considering other options as it is clear that there is no future for him at the Emirate Stadium. The Gunners’ preference would be for the Portuguese to leave the club on a permanent basis. Sporting director Edu is seeking to fetch a fee in the region of £30 million, which Forest were apparently willing to pay.

Arsenal may have to lower their demands following the collapse in negotiations with Nottingham Forest.

No room for Tavares at Arsenal

One thing that is certain is that there is no way back for Tavares at Arsenal. Despite the significant injury suffered by Jurrien Timber, and the doubts over Oleksandr Zinchenko’s ability to maintain his own fitness levels, there is no sense that Tavares has taken a step closer to a return to the first team.

The 23-year old fell down the pecking order towards the end of his first season with the Gunners. With Mikel Arteta having lost his trust in the player, Tavares was sent to Marseille on loan last season.

The former Portugal under-21 international had a mixed spell with the French outfit. In an attacking sense, he was a very potent weapon for Marseille, but his defensive errors cost them on occasions.

At the right club, with the right manager, Tavares has the potential to blossom into an extremely effective left-back. However, Arteta can’t afford for Tavares’ inevitable learning curve to jeopardise Arsenal’s short-term aims.

It seems unlikely that another club will come in and match the £30 million that was touted as Nottingham Forest’s valuation of the player. However, having paid just £8 million for Tavares in 2021, Edu should be able to ensure that Arsenal make a profit on the player.
