FC Barcelona star Lamine Yamal has agreed that Arsenal and Spain attacker Mikel Merino is a very underrated player.

There is no doubt that the Spanish attacker is one of the most underrated players in Europe, given the number of goals he has scored over the last two seasons.

Ever since Mikel Arteta transitioned him into a centre forward, Merino has taken his game to another level for both club and country.

Now, Yamal has given the Arsenal attacker real credit and made it clear that he is one of the most ‘underrated’ players around.

Lamine Yamal thinks Arsenal’s Mikel Merino is ‘underrated’

Lamine Yamal has agreed with a suggestion that Arsenal attacker Mikel Merino is one of the most ‘underrated’ players.

The Barcelona attacker was answering questions, and one of them was to name an underrated player, to which he said Fabian Ruiz from Paris Saint-Germain.

His mother then suggested Merino as an option, and the 18-year-old certainly agreed that the Arsenal star is right up there.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Yamal said: “An underrated I’m going to tell you now is Fabian Ruiz, from PSG.”

When he asked his mother who she believes is underrated, she claimed: “Merino from Arsenal. I’m a big fan of Merino.”

Yamal firmly agreed with his mother’s answer, nodding his head and adding: “Also (Merino is an underrated player). Okay, Fabian and Merino.”

The 29-year-old played a key role in qualifying for the 2026 World Cup as he netted six goals in five matches for La Roja.

Merino has struggled with an injury for the majority of 2026, but he is now fully fit and is part of Luis de la Fuente’s squad.

The Arsenal attacker could claim a starting spot for Spain, who are one of the big favourites to go all the way in the tournament this summer.
