Robin van Persie might be an Arsenal legend thanks to his goals but his prediction about Mikel Arteta has come back to haunt him in a bad way.
Van Persie was working as a pundit prior to becoming the manager of Feyenoord and was often outspoken on his former club.
Indeed, speaking back in 2019, Van Persie made a claim about Arsenal under Mikel Arteta.
“Arsenal can’t win the title with Arteta as their manager, I don’t hate him, but as pundits we need to say the truth. Arsenal need a manager that has won a lot of trophies & with a winning mentality deposited in the player,” Van Persie said at the time.
Now, with Arsenal becoming champions under Arteta, things have just gone from bad to worse for ‘RVP’.

Robin van Persie sacked after suggesting Arsenal wouldn’t win under Mikel Arteta
Football can work in weird and wonderful ways at times and it looks like Van Persie has been left with egg on his face with this one.
The Dutchman had been in charge for former club and Eredivisie giants, Feyenoord. However, after finishing a whopping 19 points behind Ajax in the league this season, Van Persie has paid with his job.
Of course, this means that Van Persie has been given the boot by Feyenoord in the same year that Arteta and his Arsenal team proved him wrong.

Yes, there might not have been any malice Van Persie’s comments at the time but yet again, it’s an example of Arteta proving people wrong.
Quite what’s next for the former Arsenal striker remains to be seen.
Like Arteta, Van Persie is very much a young manager with a good reputation but with new ownership at the Dutch club and disagreements over the immediate plan, Van Persie is now out of work.
Could a route to England be on the cards in one way or another? Well, that might take time and ultimately, Van Persie might have to cut his cloth elsewhere before an English team takes a punt on him.
