Arsenal have finally received some positive injury news, with William Saliba in line to return very soon.

Saliba missed out on international duty over the September break in play after hurting his ankle against Liverpool.

The Frenchman only managed to play four minutes at Anfield before being hooked by Mikel Arteta, with it later revealed that Saliba had been hurt in the warm-up

Fortunately, Arsenal’s star centre-back looks to be close to returning, which is crucial with the magnitude of fixtures coming up.

William Saliba set for Arsenal injury return

Arteta didn’t hesitate to take Saliba off against Liverpool, raising questions over whether the 24-year-old should’ve even started the contest.

Having missed the international break and Arsenal’s clash against Nottingham Forest, Saliba has had time to rest, which has enabled his recovery.

On X, trusted Arsenal source Hand of Arsenal confirmed that the defender is ‘expected’ to return to full training this week.

It’s great news considering that the Gunners have Manchester City on matchday five, but the even greater detail about the update came with regard to Cristhian Mosquera

The 21-year-old’s ability meant that Saliba could have ‘an extra couple of recovery days’, noting that Arsenal knew they could ‘comfortably’ give the Frenchman additional time because of Mosquera.

Signing the centre-back from Valencia for just £13m in the summer transfer window is already looking to be such a steal so early into the season.

Alan Shearer impressed by Cristhian Mosquera vs Nottingham Forest

Mosquera was incredibly good against Liverpool and matched his performance level against Nottingham Forest.

Alan Shearer reacted to the Spaniard’s display on The Rest Is Football podcast, noting how capable the defender was when replacing Saliba.

“Saliba out injured, Mosquera comes in, I thought he was superb,” Shearer said.

Mosquera won 100% of his ground duels against Forest and contributed to eight defensive actions, as per Sofascore, signalling that he’s more than ready to contend for a starting spot in the Arsenal squad.

Thanks to the work in the summer window, Arsenal were able to give Saliba additional rest, seeing the Frenchman return at 100% just in time for Manchester City.
