Former Premier League winner Adam Lallana has delivered his verdict on reported Arsenal target and his Brighton and Hove Albion teammate Tariq Lamptey.
CBS Sport revealed recently that the Gunners have the young English full-back on the transfer wish list, while Fabrizio Romano has been saying for weeks that Mikel Arteta and co are big fans of the Seagulls defender. (Read here)
Lamptey only joined Brighton in January last year. He became an instant hit at the Amex, and his performances at the start of this season were truly brilliant as well.
The youngster, sadly, has had a tough time with injuries. He has only played 11 games this season as a result, and it was recently revealed that he would miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery. (The Athletic)
That is a big blow for Brighton. Lamptey is a really important player for the Seagulls. His pace is a massive asset for Graham Potter in his system and Lallana – who witnessed the youngster’s speed for the first time at the start of this season – was blown away.
He told TalkSport: “It’s early days for the lad, at the moment. Unfortunately, he is out injured. But he possesses outstanding qualities. His pace – he will scare the living daylights out of anyone. But the thing that struck me the most about him is how humble he is.
“His attitude and his application to training, day in and day out, considering he is so young is so refreshing to see. Based on that alone you can back him to have a top, top career and play at the highest level, internationally and domestically, that’s for sure.”
The Insider’s View:
Lamptey really is rapid, isn’t he?
It wouldn’t be a surprise if the former Chelsea man is the fastest player in the Premier League, and Arsenal could definitely do with someone like him at right-back.
Hector Bellerin, one of our fastest players, is reportedly looking to leave. Cedric Soares and Calum Chambers are good players but they lack the pace to constantly threaten our opponents.
That is probably why Arteta, Edu and co are looking at Lamptey, and the Englishman would be a stunning signing. However, his recent injury is a concern which may well force us to consider a move for someone else this summer.
