Bernd Leno says one thing about Arsenal star Bukayo Saka is 'very unusual'

Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno sang praises of his young teammate Bukayo Saka in his press conference ahead of our game against Slavia Prague tomorrow.

The young Englishman has been one of our best players this season. He has scored six goals and has provided seven assists in all competitions so far, and if things go his way, he will reach double figures in both by the end of this campaign.

One of Saka’s biggest positives this term is how well he coped when the senior players around him underperformed. He often carried the whole team on his back, and that surprised many people.

Leno has claimed today that it is ‘very unusual’ for a player of Saka’s age to do what he has been doing. The German said that the teenager feels a little bit older to his teammates than he actually is because he almost leads the side at times.

He said, as per Arsenal.com: “There’s nothing to say. His performances are incredible. He’s a top player and he has a top mentality. I think it’s very unusual for a young player like him because he’s very professional.

“He feels older than he is because he’s almost leading the team. This is a very good sign. I’m pretty sure he will become a world-class player. We are very happy to have him because this season – I don’t know if he’s the best – he’s been one of the best players.”

The Insider’s View:

Not all players can do what Saka has been doing at 19 years of age. His performances this season, especially at a period when Arsenal were really struggling, shows just how special he is.

Mikel Arteta deserves a ton of credit for helping Saka reach this level. The Arsenal boss also deserves praise for convincing the teenager to sign a new deal last year, and it won’t be long before he gets another improved contract.

Saka is expected to start against Slavia Prague. He missed a fairly easy chance in the first game and he would’ve been disappointed with that. He will be looking to set things straight in the Czech capital tomorrow, and if he has a good game, we will likely come away with a comfortable victory.
