Arsenal came back from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 against West Ham United yesterday and Martin Odegaard was the Gunners’ driving force.
The Norwegian has settled in brilliantly in the Premier League. He has surprised many people with his adaptation, and his performances on the pitch – especially in the last four weeks – have been phenomenal.
Arsenal’s first half hour against the Hammers was terrible. We were second-best in almost every department, and Mikel Arteta’s men were deservedly three goals down.
We needed something special to turn things around and Odegaard stepped up. His movement and his skill on the ball in the final third caused West Ham a lot of problems, and he was involved in one way or another in all three goals.
Odegaard was among the best players on the pitch yesterday. He, unfortunately, missed out on the man of the match award to Calum Chambers, but the Englishman gave credit where it was due.
The Real Madrid man posted a picture of himself from the game on Instagram and Chambers’ one-word reply echoed all of our thoughts. He called Odegaard a ‘wizard’, and there isn’t a more accurate description of the Norwegian.
Odegaard’s numbers vs West Ham
The Real Madrid man’s performance caught everybody’s eye and his stats from the game yesterday back that up as well.
Odegaard had 95 touches of the ball and made 71 passes at a stunning 93% accuracy. He also registered four key passes and completed every one of his dribble attempts. He won six out of his eight attempted ground duels as well, which shows why Arteta was so desperate to sign him. (Sofascore)
We’ve had a German wizard in Mesut Ozil and a wizard from Wales in Aaron Ramsey in the past, but the Norwegian wizard might just prove to be the best among them all if we can sign him permanently this summer.
