Brighton and Hove Albion skipper Lewis Dunk spoke to TalkSport yesterday about Arsenal new boy Ben White and what he can achieve in the coming years.

White’s journey over the years has truly been remarkable. After impressive loan spells at Newport and Peterborough, he joined Leeds for a season. He was among their best players and helped Marcelo Bielsa’s side return to the Premier League.

My Revenge On Ben Foster

The Englishman came back to Brighton last season and settled in brilliantly as well. He was fantastic for the Seagulls, so much so, that his performances earned him a spot in England’s Euros squad.

His rise convinced Arsenal that he was the one this summer. Mikel Arteta made White his top target and Edu secured his signature for a staggering £50 million, making him our third most expensive signing of all time.

Lewis Dunk: Ben White can become one of the best defenders in England

Dunk, who knows White very well having played alongside him, was asked about the Englishman’s potential. The Brighton captain believes that the new Arsenal defender has what it takes to become one of the best centre-halves in the Premier League very soon.

He said: “He’s got the potential to [become one of the Premier League’s best] for sure. I think we’ve seen it for a good few years now how good he is.

“I spoke to him a few times in the summer when he was away with England. Just seeing how he was and if he was enjoying it, and he was only saying good things. What a summer he’s had I suppose, been in a Euro final and getting a £50m move. Not bad is it for him.”

The Insider’s View:

White has made two appearances for Arsenal in pre-season so far and he has impressed. He made a goal-saving block against Chelsea at the Emirates, before performing brilliantly against Tottenham on Sunday.

Early signs show Arsenal really have a quality player. Yes, his transfer fee isn’t a small one, but he’s still only 23 and as Dunk said, he has the potential to become one of the best in the country very soon.

Arsenal face Brentford in our opening Premier League fixture on Friday. White is expected to start in the heart of our defence, and if he has a solid game, we should come away with a positive result.
