Arsenal star Bukayo Saka spoke on BT Sport after our 3-1 win against Southampton in the Premier League last night.
The Saints took the lead early on but Mikel Arteta’s men responded brilliantly. Nicolas Pepe levelled the scoring before goals from Saka and Alexandre Lacazette sealed the game.
Saka’s goal was brilliant. His movement and the composure he showed to take the ball past the onrushing goalkeeper was fantastic, but the way Lacazette set him through on goal deserves a ton of praise as well.
The youngster revealed after the game that the move was something that he and the Frenchman had discussed just before kickoff, and it worked brilliantly.
He said: “I spoke to him [Lacazette] before the game about the opportunity. (I told him) as soon as he gets the ball I was going to run in behind. He listened and we got a goal so I am happy.”
Lacazette had an outstanding game
The Frenchman scored the final goal and he is now our top scorer in all competitions. That is brilliant on its own but his linkup play with the players around him was outstanding last night.
Lacazette’s lack of goals at one point in the season attracted a ton of criticism. He missed a sitter in the opening minute of the game as well and it would have been very easy for him to drop his shoulders and sulk all game.
Thankfully, he didn’t. He was one of the best players on the pitch, and he thoroughly deserved his goal at the end.
Arsenal fans and Mikel Arteta will be hoping he carries his form until the end of the season. If he can, we will surely end the campaign in a respectable position.
