Everton forward Josh King has revealed how he convinced Martin Odegaard to join Arsenal in the January transfer window.
The Real Madrid man was heavily linked with a return to Real Sociedad, where he spent the whole of last season on loan. It looked like a done deal at one point, but Mikel Arteta and Edu jumped in and lured him in to North London.
King has now claimed that he played a part in the move.
The striker knows Odegaard well thanks to their time together in the Norwegian national team. He claims that he texted his compatriot as soon as he saw the rumours, and that seemingly convinced the Real Madrid man to join us.
King told NRK: “When I saw the rumour about Arsenal, I sent him a message and said: “You have to go to Arsenal. He replied, “Are you sure? Are you sure?” – I was so sure.
“Arsenal’s style of play and Martin… I have friends who have played for Arsenal, and I know a little how the club is. In my head, I think it suited him well.”
Josh King, you absolute hero!
Whether it’s King’s text message or Arteta’s convincing pitch, the most important thing is that Odegaard is playing for Arsenal.
The Real Madrid man has settled in really well and he is proving to be an excellent addition. His performances over the last month have been absolutely phenomenal and Arsenal fans are praying that he ends up at the Emirates on a permanent deal.
Real Madrid will have a huge say this summer and Arteta’s convincing skills will play a big part as well. Another quick message from King could be helpful too – please Josh, send him a text, will you?
