Former Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has had his say on Bukayo Saka after what happened in the Euro 2020 final against Italy.
Saka came on in the second half for England and looked really bright. He had some really good moments against the mighty Italians, and many Arsenal supporters were convinced that the kid was destined to bring the Euros home.
The game ended 1-1 after extra time and a penalty shootout separated England and glory. Saka, 19, was handed the burden of taking the Three Lions’ fifth and most important spot-kick, and sadly, the teenager’s shot was saved.
A vast majority of football fans leapt into Saka’s defence. He received a ton of love from almost everyone, but sadly, he was subjected to some disgusting racial abuse on his social media accounts.
Ozil is no stranger to such abuse and he has had his say on the situation. The German had some really nice words to say about Saka and he has predicted that the Arsenal teenager will go on to become a great player for club and country in the coming years.
Mesut Ozil: Bukayo Saka is a great talent
He told Sky Sports: “I felt very much for Bukayo. I know from my own experience how it feels to miss a penalty. In a final, as the last one, to take on the responsibility of an entire nation as a young player – respect. Not many players would dare to do that.
“Bukayo is a modest young player. I have gotten to know him as a very determined young man who works very hard for his dream and does everything he can to achieve it.
“Bukayo is blessed with a talent that not many have. If he remains as humble and determined as he already is, I am 100 per cent convinced that he has a great future ahead of him and can become a great player. He’s really a great talent, and I’m sure that there are going to be many more big matches for the English national team for him in the future.”
Ozil and Saka couldn’t play together for a long time due to a ton of reasons, but the youngster will surely enjoy this praise from the German. We’re all behind him and we can’t wait to have him back at Arsenal ahead of the new season.
