Arsenal are answering critics who claim the table-topping Gunners can’t win the Premier League title.
That’s the verdict of former full-back Nigel Winterburn, who cites the arrival of Mesut Ozil as a major reason for Wenger’s outfit’s league form.
German international playmaker Ozil moved to the Emirates in a record-breaking £42.5million move from Real Madrid in the summer.
And Highbury hero Winterburn reckons his arrival has lifted the entire squad.
He said: “What Ozil has done is brought the belief to other players in the squad that maybe Arsenal have turned the corner and that rather than selling our best players we’re now trying to bring some real quality into the football club.
“He’s given everyone a massive lift. You can see he’s got quality and other players are responding to that.
“The team has been in superb form since the back end of last season. Look at the points they’ve picked up in the league over that period of time. They’ve been superb.
“What people want to know now is can they sustain that and at least be in a position to challenge come the end of the season?
“There is still that debate around Arsenal, do they need another centre-forward to complement Giroud? Have they got enough depth, they have in midfield, but do they need anything more defensively? The questions are being asked but at the moment the team is answering them.”
Arsenal face high-flying Liverpool at the Emirates on Saturday.
