Arsenal and England star Bukayo Saka suffered heartbreak in the final of Euro 2020 against Italy last night.

The young Englishman was forced to take the fifth penalty in the shootout ahead of more experienced players. He showed immense courage to step up, but unfortunately for him, Gianluigi Donnarumma saved his spot-kick, and that gave Italy the win.

The Azzurri, based on what they’ve done in the entire tournament, deserved to be the champions. They were absolutely outstanding throughout the competition, but it really is heartbreaking for England, who came ever so close to bringing it home.

Saka, after his penalty miss, was in tears. He was absolutely devastated, but it’s not his fault. It never should have been him in that position, especially with many experienced players available, but Southgate went with him, and that backfired.

The Arsenal man showed incredible bravery to step up when others were hiding. He only deserves praise from everyone in the country and abroad, and his Arsenal teammates – past and present – are fully behind him.

A number of people associated with Arsenal including Shkodran Mustafi and Martin Odegaard heaped praise on Saka. Current Gunners Eddie Nketiah, William Saliba, Gabriel Martinelli, Emile Smith Rowe, Gabriel Magalhaes and others joined in as well.

Even Liverpool legend and Rangers boss Steven Gerrard was blown away by Saka’s bravery, and they all sent heartfelt messages to the Arsenal man on Instagram after his missed penalty last night.
