Arsenal suffered a 3-2 defeat at Old Trafford yesterday and Thomas Partey looked well off the pace.

The Ghanaian is undoubtedly our best midfielder. When he’s in the mood, Arsenal dominate games and often pick up the victory. Sadly, he wasn’t at his best last night, which is why we lost the midfield battle and the three points.

Partey spoke to Arsenal.com after the game. The former Atletico Madrid man claimed that the players did everything they could to win, but it just wasn’t possible. He also admitted that he has to improve his game as the team needs him.

Thomas Partey: I have to improve, Arsenal need me

He said: “I think the team came out to win, we did everything we could, we played well, we created a lot of chances and I think that we were unlucky. They scored two goals and then a penalty.

“The team tried to improve, go forward and look for a goal, for the equaliser, but in the end it’s football, we have to forget about this game, we have to think of our next game, we have to do better and also to win. The team is improving, each and everyone is doing our best.

“For me, I have to keep on doing my best, keep trying, keep improving, try to come back to my best, because the team needs me, the team needs us. I think we’re improving each day and it’s gonna be good.

“If we want to be at the top it’s normal that we have to fight, we have to be under control and try to win the games.”

The Insider’s View:

Arsenal started the game really well yesterday, but once we took the lead, we just sat back. That gave Manchester United all the space and time they needed, and they took full advantage of the situation.

Partey didn’t have the worst game yesterday, but he’s capable of so much more. If he had stepped up and dominated the midfield, United wouldn’t have touched the ball, but sadly, it wasn’t meant to be at Old Trafford last night.

It will be interesting to see how Partey and Arsenal will react to the defeat. Last night’s result was a really hard one to take, but we have no time to sulk as our next game is just three days away – at Goodison Park against Everton.
