'Ukrainian Neymar' Mudryk 'shocked' by his club's demand from Arsenal

Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move to sign Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk over the last few months.

The 21-year-old, dubbed the ‘Ukrainian Neymar’, has made a phenomenal name for himself. His performances have been so good that his club’s director of football, Dario Srna, publicly demanded £87.6 million (€100m) from interested clubs like Arsenal to let him go. (The Athletic)

Mudryk isn’t happy with those comments at all.

Arsenal target Mykhaylo Mudryk ‘shocked’ by his club’s transfer demand

Mudryk has been exceptional for Shaktar over the last year.

Since the start of this season, he has scored eight goals and provided eight assists in 16 games in all competitions – more than any Arsenal player.

It’s no surprise at all that Arsenal are interested in the Ukrainian, with reports revealing that the Gunners even tabled a £52.3 million bid to sign him just six days ago (Calciomercato.it).

Mudryk has also admitted that he’d be open to a move to the Emirates (CBS Sports), but Srna’s demands have not impressed him one bit. He says he’s shocked!

Speaking to SportArena, the Ukrainian said: “When I found out my price, I was not only surprised – I was shocked.

“Every footballer has a dream to play in a top club and in a top league. I am no exception. But I’m 100 per cent sure that it’s unlikely a player will be bought from Ukraine for €100 million.

“After reading the interview with the CEO, I will not hide it; I was very upset. The €100 million amount puts up a barrier to my move to a top league, which I dreamed of. I can’t say that my dream is killed. But it is wounded, that’s for sure.”

The Insider’s View:

Mudryk’s comments definitely suggest that he’s desperate to leave Shakhtar for a big club in the January transfer window.

The 21-year-old is a phenomenal talent. He has all the characteristics to become a top player in the coming years, and he’d fit in very well in this young Arsenal side.

Mikel Arteta has already proven how good he is at helping youngsters develop into fantastic players – just look at how much the likes of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli have improved.

Mudryk would be fantastic for us in January, but if Shakhtar refuse to budge on their demands, we don’t see this move going through.
