Emil Forsberg

Red Bull Leipzig have been the success story of the German Bundesliga this season. Although they are well back by energy drink company Red Bull, their first ever season in the Bundesliga has seen them qualify for the UEFA Champions League already. Something we can only dream of at The Emirates.
There have been a number of standout players in the Leipzig side, and if rumours are to be believed, Arsenal have got their eye one of them, with a briefcase containing £20 million in hand.
Emil Forsberg is a 25-year-old Swedish international, capable of playing on either flank or in an attacking midfield role.
It safe to say, he has taken the Bundesliga by storm this season.
With eight goals and 17 assists, a league best, in just 26 appearances, Forsberg has shown really quality in the final third, and I believe he would be a great signing for Arsenal.
Compared to everyone in the Arsenal squad, he has more assists than anyone by a mile, with Alexis Sanchez’s eight the closest contender.
His eight league goals is only outdone by Sanchez (19), Theo Walcott (10), and Olivier Giroud (9), showing the kind of end product that Arsenal need at times.
He also offers something that the current squad often lacks, a sense of urgency and willingness to pressure teams, rather than knocking the ball around with few chances created.
His 77% pass accuracy is poor granted, but his total forward passes of 384 suggests he likes to keep the team on the front foot and look to be a constant threat. And it appears to great success. In his 26 appearances, the Swede has created 62 chances and completed 50 key passes, both astounding numbers.
On top of this, his 59% shot accuracy shows he’s not afraid to shoot, again, something Arsenal often lack, while 53% successful take-ons suggest Forsberg is a confident dribbler.
So he offers a lot that Arsenal lack and has the stats to back it up. At just £20 million I think he would be a quality signing. Forsberg is just 25-years-old and has his peak years ahead of him, while I would also fully expect him to make an immediate impact.
However, I do believe that maybe one, or even two attackers would have to go in order to accommodate him and any other attacking signings.
It’s basically take your pick from Theo Walcott, Alex Iwobi, Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Lucas Perez and Joel Campbell. The choice is obvious for me but, I will keep my cards close to my chest.
Regardless of who it might be, Forsberg out stripes pretty all, bare Sanchez and Ozil for his proven quality, while Oxlade-Chamberlain’s new wing-back role makes him a certain keep. Just imagine if they all had contracts beyond the end of next season…
Nevertheless, Emil Forsberg ticks all the boxes for me. I’ve been watching a lot of him this season and have been consistently impressed.
Get him immediately!
