PES Predicts Arsenal vs Manchester City

PES Predicts

Another PES Prediction you say? We couldn’t let a game as big as Arsenal vs Man City pass by without letting our (my) favourite video game run the rule over it. So let’s take a break from Wenger in, Wenger out, banners and planes, let’s just let two decent sides have at it.

Both sides have a lot of options, so I’m not hopeful of getting these lineups spot on but forgive me. For Arsenal, I’m expecting Ozil to be recalled after a probably-not-coincidental- absence, so he’s in but I think Oxlade-Chamberlain will miss out for Aaron Ramsey. I’ve gone for Welbeck to retain his place up front just because he’s had 2 weeks off, with the usual back four in place. For Man City, I don’t think I’ve ever corrected their correct full backs let alone starting 11. I’ve gone for the ex-Arsenal duo Clichy and Sagna with Otamendi partnering Stones. I don’t know, throw the names up in the air. It’s football time.

Drury and Jim welcome us, but they are cut off in their prime as Aguero goes through Ramsey from the kickoff. Arsenal should score inside 2 minutes but Welbeck puts it wide after being inexplicably unmarked in the box from a ball in from the left. Arsenal spraying it round nicely though, in the opening exchanges, the latest move ends with Xhaka smashing it over the bar from about 30 yards. Welbeck then turns Stones inside out but his shot is rubbish, and that’s 15 minutes on the clock.

Welbeck is causing carnage by running the channels but the problem is when he gets there, nobody is in the middle. Xhaka shoots wide from distance again. Actually, what am I watching here? Stones tries to dribble out from the back, Welbeck nips in, squares it but Caballero gets a foot on it before Ozil can, there’s a bit of a scramble but it’s 0-0. Now City finally threaten, Aguero’s shot is charged down and Arsenal clear. This game is flying over but no goals yet, 35 played.

Arsenal doing what Arsenal do best and passing the ball sideways. No threat, though. It’s all gone a bit scrappy. There is the half-time whistle, and for all Arsenal have been on top, they’ve had one shot on target from five. Man City have had just the one shot. Even Jim doesn’t seem to know what to say.

Man City get the second half underway. Jim finally pipes up that if Arsenal continue to play as they did in the first half, they’ll win easily. Steady on Jim. GOAL. Aaron Ramsey, that’s beautiful. Unlike your terrible bleached hair, you’re still sporting here. Welbeck runs the left channel and he cuts it back for the arriving Ramsey. The ball is behind him but he pulls out a wonderful turn to leave Stones and he smashes it past Caballero. The top four dream is back on. Wenger in!

There’s still half an hour to go though and Man City are having a spell of possession. Or they were…Otamendi miscontrols, Ozil nicks it off him and plays in Welbeck. He’s one on one, he must score…he doesn’t. Caballero with a big save. Goodness me. Here comes Jesus Navas for Sane. Just a hunch but that won’t help. Welbeck is withdrawn for Iwobi, with Sanchez going up front. Into the final 20 now.

IMPACT! Iwobi has made it 2-0. It’s a very smart finish after Ozil’s shot is blocked, it falls to Iwobi on the edge of the box who controls it and drills it low beyond Caballero. Game over you’d think. Walcott has a chance to make it 3 shortly after but his header is weak and straight at the keeper. Sanchez then feeds Iwobi who hits a half-volley just wide. He’s been brilliant since coming on, the young Nigerian. City have been rubbish, barely mustering an attack. Iwobi puts another chance wide after Stones is dispossessed for the 63rd time (rough count).

The three minutes added time are a procession, the referee blows his whistle and that’s it – Arsenal get the win today. Jim tells us that although we love the creative side of the game, their defensive discipline has won the game today. They had nout to do with it Jim, don’t give me that rubbish. But don’t worry City fans, it’s only PES. It might go better for you.
