Miriam Peruzzi, agent of AS Roma star Ebrima Darboe, spoke to CalcioMercato after rumours linked her client with a move to Arsenal and Tottenham this summer.

The teenager burst onto the scene earlier this month and has made a stunning impression. He has impressed everyone with his performances – especially the one against local rivals Lazio last week.

Corriere dello Sport revealed recently that Arsenal were leading Tottenham in the race to sign Darboe in the summer. (Read more here) Roma sporting director Tiago Pinto had no interest in listening to any offers for his star youngster, and Peruzzi has echoed the same now.

She said: “Darboe is an exceptional guy, really good. Everyone in Rome knows him, he’s polite, I say he’s a golden boy. His contract expires in 2023, relations with Roma are excellent and we will meet shortly, I think we will find an agreement to adapt and extend the contract.

“The boy’s desire is to stay, I think the will is mutual. Many calls, but for now we have not fallen into temptation. Never say never, but it seems premature to me, let’s see what happens. We want to continue with Roma and they think with us.

“I can say that great clubs are looking for him, from England to Spain and France, but also important Serie A clubs who would be happy if he played with them. More foreign clubs are looking for him than Italian ones, we Italians like older players.

The Insider’s View:

It was always unlikely for Arsenal to step in and lure Darboe away. The Gambian is arguably Roma’s most exciting young talent at the moment, and he has all the characteristics to fit perfectly in Jose Mourinho’s system.

The only hope Arsenal have is to see Mourinho not fancy him. We’ve seen over the years how the Portuguese tactician prefers experienced leaders in his side over kids who are just coming in to make a name for themselves.

That could well happen again and Edu will certainly be ready to pounce if that’s the case. However, that looks extremely unlikely at this point, and we should in, all likelihood, see Darboe dawn Roma’s colours again next season.
