Brazilian legend Ronaldinho spoke to The Mirror and hailed Arsenal youngster Gabriel Martinelli.

The teenager is making huge strides for us and has caught the attention of football fans across the globe. Fellow countryman Ronaldinho is no different and the former Barcelona man has tipped Martinelli to greatness.

He said: “We as Brazilians are very excited about him and his future. It is one thing to have the talent – but another at the age of 18 to have the confidence. Martinelli reminds me of Ronaldo his first season in Europe he scored 30 goals and people were thinking: ‘who is this 18-year-old Brazilian kid?”

“He wanted the ball, he would run at players, there was no fear no matter what players or team he was playing against – and I see that similar attitude in Martinelli. He just wants to be on the ball and score goals. Ronaldo went on to be the best player in the world – and that can also be the aim of Martinelli.”

That is some name for Martinelli to be compared with at this stage of his career. Ronaldo is arguably the greatest striker to have ever played the game and our young Brazilian still has a long way to go before he hits the same heights.

Can Gabi hit 20 goals this season?

Martinelli reached double figures for the season last week against Chelsea. Nicolas Anelka was the last Arsenal teenager to achieve that feat over two decades ago which just shows how difficult it is for strikers of his age.

If Martinelli keeps taking his chances as he has since the start of the season, a 20-goal campaign isn’t unrealistic. His impact irrespective of his position has truly been phenomenal and Arsenal fans should be excited about what’s yet to come from him.

Arteta will have a tough decision to make when we play Burnley next weekend. Pierre-Emerick Aubamenyang will be back and he is a guaranteed starter when he is available.

Will Lacazette be dropped in favour of Martinelli or will the youngster be sacrificed to the bench? Arteta is being paid the big bucks for decisions like these and hopefully, he will make the right one.
