Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell spoke on the Highbury Squad YouTube channel about the one player who does the most work after training.

The mood around the Emirates has been extremely positive after back-to-back wins against Benfica and Leicester City. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Bukayo Saka were the stars in our Europa League win, but it was Nicolas Pepe who starred on Sunday.

Pepe has looked a different player ever since his red card against Leeds in November, and Campbell has heard that extra work after training is the reason behind that change.

He said: “Something that I learned is there is one player at the club who does the most work after training, and that’s Nicolas Pepe.

“One-on-one with the manager, explaining what he wants, working at positioning, receiving. Now we are starting to see Pepe look more like a consistent player. Hard work pays off.”

Arsenal Insider’s view:

Hard work certainly does pay off.

It was really a tough period for Pepe after he got himself a silly red card. Many felt that his Arsenal career was over after that, but he put his head down, worked with Arteta and is now reaping the rewards.

The 25-year-old now has eight goals in all competitions this term – same as he managed in the whole of last season.

Pepe is on the right path and even though he hasn’t nailed down a starting spot just yet, he looks closer to that than he has ever been since Arteta took charge of the club over 14 months ago.
