The Sokratis Papastathopoulos derby is right around the corner as Arsenal travel to Greece to take on Olympiacos in the next round of the Europa League.

The Greek international knows Arsenal very well having spent two-and-a-half years at the Emirates. Mikel Arteta left him out of the squad at the start of this season, but Sokratis was involved in training everyday and knows our tactics better than most others.

Olympiacos star Bruma sat down for an interview with Goal today ahead of the game on Thursday. The winger revealed that Sokratis has shared ‘some secrets’ about Arsenal, but he refused to comment any further.

He said: “He has told us some secrets, but I won’t tell you about any of them. It’s between us and Sokratis. Of course, he knows Arsenal’s locker room better than anyone.

“He is a player with a lot of experience. He’s played for Milan, Dortmund and Arsenal who are all great, great clubs. So Sokratis is a very good voice. He’s been helping a lot in the locker room and he’s been helping the team a lot with his experience.

“We are really pleased to have him here and I’m sure he’s going to be a big help on Thursday.”

Arsenal Insider’s view:

History certainly suggests that the players we’ve let go almost always come back to haunt us.

Emmanuel Adebayor, Robin van Persie, Cesc Fabregas and most recently Theo Walcott have all had the pleasure of scoring against us, and quite frankly, it hurt a lot more than it should have.

It won’t be a big shock to see Sokratis turn into prime Paolo Maldini on Thursday, but we should fancy our chances. He might have given away a few of our secrets, but there’s a lot we can still do and hopefully, the boys can get it done.
