Arsenal have had a good transfer window so far but Mikel Arteta isn’t done just yet. The Gunners are on the market for another midfielder, and if reports are to be believed, we have made a move Olympique Lyonnais’ Houssem Aouar.
RMC Sport claimed recently that Arsenal had tabled a bid in the region of £32 million for the Frenchman. That offer is expected to be rejected, but we are likely to go back in with a better proposal to seal the deal before the window closes next week.
Aouar, still only 22, is one of the most exciting attacking midfielders in world football. The Frenchman scored nine goals and provided 10 assists in all competitions last season. That is a better return than all of Arsenal’s midfielders, and it is no surprise Arteta is prioritising a deal for him.
The Arsenal boss isn’t the only one who wants the deal to happen. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has voiced his opinion on his side’s reported interest in Aouar, and the Gunners skipper is hoping that a deal will be completed very soon.
He was quoted by The Mirror saying: “He’s (Aouar) a very good player. I hope we will be lucky to have these types of players at the club, I’m sure he can bring a lot to us. I hope he will come even though he’s a Lyonnais.”
L’Equipe revealed last month that Lyon had set a £54 million price-tag on Aouar which is a long way off Arsenal’s reported opening bid. However, there seems to be some optimism around the Emirates that a deal can be struck before the end of the transfer window.
