Ian Wright has hit out at Arsenal after his former club announced their involvement in the European Super League.
The Gunners revealed late last night that we are one of the founding members of the new competition that is set to replace the Champions League as soon as they can get all the clearances required.
The announcement from Arsenal and the other 11 members has received a ton of backlash from fans, pundits and the media. Almost everybody is against the idea, including former Gunners Wright and Bacary Sagna.
It is safe to say, both Wrighty and Sagna are furious with the announcement.
It really isn’t a surprise to see the Super League being established, but it still is a shame. The history and traditions that some of these clubs have been built on mean nothing now.
The whole point of the Super League is to make the rich clubs richer, and the word ‘competition’ becomes meaningless now. Results and achievements mean absolutely nothing, but as the competition will make us a ton of money, our owners are happy to go ahead with it.
It really is shameful, but sadly, the game was always headed in this direction and there’s nothing we can do to stop it.
