Former Premier League star Andy Cole spoke on TalkSport about Arsenal and Mikel Arteta’s chances of signing Martin Odegaard on a permanent deal in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Norwegian has been very impressive since he joined us. He has now scored in back to back games for Arsenal and fans absolutely love him.
My Revenge On Ben Foster
If it was up to the supporters, we’d do everything possible to sign Odegaard on a permanent deal right away, but sadly, a lot of it depends on Real Madrid and their manager Zinedine Zidane.
Cole, like many of us, is a big fan of Odegaard. He has labelled the Norwegian as a ‘baller’ and believes that his immense quality might just be the reason why Arsenal will not be able to secure a permanent deal for him this summer.
He said: “Odegaard is a baller. He’s technically very, very gifted. There’s talk of Arsenal trying to bring him to the Emirates [on a permanent deal] in the summer. I’d be surprised.
“He’s had a few issues with Zidane. They’re not sure if Zidane will be there next season, so that’ll be interesting. The Arsenal fans love Odegaard.”
Can Arsenal sign Odegaard?
Dealing with Real Madrid is a big issue, but there is a bigger problem we’re forgetting.
Arsenal’s finances will depend on how we end the season. Winning the Europa League will give us a huge financial boost, but there is a chance that we might end up completely out of Europe, and that will mean that we will be left with almost no money.
Diario Gol reported recently that the Galacticos will demand a fee in the region of £69 million for Odegaard.
That might be beyond our reach, but we proved many people wrong when we forked out money for Thomas Partey last year and Nicolas Pepe the year before, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if Edu manages to pull this off too this summer.
