'I’d rather not': Wesley Sneijder tells 'great' player to reject Arsenal offer

Dutch football icon Wesley Sneijder has urged Andre Onana to reject all offers from Arsenal amid rumours about a summer move to the Emirates.

Goal revealed about a month ago that the Gunners are really interested in Onana, who is currently banned from all forms of football. His suspension was reduced earlier this week and Football London revealed that the Ajax star is almost certain to join Arsenal this summer.

That has caught everyone’s attention. Before his ban, Onana was widely viewed as one of the best goalkeepers in the world. He has been absolutely outstanding for Ajax over the years, and he was always destined to move to a bigger league.

Sneijder: Andre Onana should not join Arsenal

Arsenal are right to target a player of Onana’s quality. He would be an incredible addition to our squad, but Sneijder has urged the Cameroonian to snub the Gunners because we’ve ‘gone downhill in recent years’.

He said, as per Voetbal Primeur: “I expect him to go. I think he is a great goalkeeper. European top? Yes, definitely.

“I’d rather not see him at Arsenal. It’s a fantastic club, but it has gone downhill in recent years. I’d rather see him play at Real Madrid or Barcelona.”

The Insider’s View:

As much as it hurts, we can’t really argue with Sneijder about Arsenal going downhill in recent years. We’ve gone from being regulars in the Champions League to not being in Europe at all, which is just terrible.

However, Arsenal are still one of the biggest clubs in the world in terms of history and global appeal. We have one of the finest stadiums in the country, we have world-class players in the squad, and even without European football, we are more than capable of attracting top-class talents.

Sneijder is right, Arsenal haven’t been great over the last few years and we certainly can’t compete with clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona. However, we are only a few smart decisions away from being one of the best clubs in the Premier League.

Hopefully, Edu and Mikel Arteta can convince Onana of that this summer.
