Michael Owen has heaped praise on Arsenal star Granit Xhaka and has warned other Premier League clubs to ‘watch out’.

The Swiss international has been incredible for us this season. He’s thriving in the more advanced role that Mikel Arteta is using him in, and he is proving to be a real threat in attack.

Xhaka has surprised many people this season.

The Swiss international has been one of the biggest reasons why we’ve looked so good going forward, and his link-up with Oleksandr ZIichenko on the left side has been sensational so far.

Owen, who has been critical of Xhaka in the past, is now impressed with the Arsenal man. He praised the 29-year-old’s attacking output and even told other teams to ‘watch out’.

The Englishman told Premier League Productions, as quoted by HITC: “I was listening to him a while back and he said he is ‘playing with more freedom now’.

“This season, he has been powering forward and getting involved in much more attacking areas. The touches in the opponent’s box this season compared to last season, it’s a huge jump. Chances created, another huge jump and the shots as well.

“All of those point to the fact that he is getting into more forward positions. I never thought that I would say it, but you might have to watch out.”

The Insider’s View:

Xhaka really does look like a different player this season.

He has a goal and two assists to his name after six games so far – the exact same output he managed in the whole of last season.

If Xhaka keeps improving in this new role of his, Arsenal will definitely score more goals in the coming games. That will surely make us a really difficult side to contain when we overload the opposition’s box.

There’s still a lot of football to be played this season, and we won’t be surprised if Xhaka manages to add plenty more goals and assists to his tally in the coming months.
