'One of the best': Arsenal's top target to replace Arteta is a big Wenger fan

The Telegraph claimed this week that Arsenal will try to appoint Antonio Conte if Mikel Arteta fails to turn things around in the coming weeks.

The Gunners have lost each of their first two Premier League games. We were absolutely woeful against Brentford on the opening day, while although we improved against Chelsea on Sunday, it was not enough to get a point on the board.

The Arsenal board are patient at the moment, but the report claims that Arteta will be shown the door if things don’t improve in the next five games. If he’s sacked, ex-Chelsea boss Conte will reportedly be our number one managerial target.

Arsenal-linked Antonio Conte is a big fan of Arsene Wenger

Like anyone who understands football, Conte really admired Wenger. Back in August 2017, he labelled the legendary Frenchman as ‘one of the best in the world’, and we can’t help but agree with him.

Conte told The Guardian: “I consider Arsène Wenger one of the best coaches.

“I think it’s right (that Wenger signed a new contract in 2017). He is a really good coach. He had a lot of time to build his team and squad. It is the right choice for them. I am not surprised; he is one of the best in the world. Arsenal is one of the best teams in the world.”

Should Conte replace Arteta?

Every real Arsenal fan wants Arteta to succeed at the Emirates. There’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that the Gunners boss loves our football club, and watching him accomplish great things here would be fantastic.

However, if Arteta is judged by results and results only, he doesn’t have a leg to stand on. He has lost a third of his home league games at Arsenal, which is a shocking record, and if things don’t change, the board will have no choice but to sack him.

Conte would be a fantastic replacement. Yes, his system isn’t anything like what Arsenal fans would ideally prefer at the Emirates. However, he is a serial winner and if there’s one man who can get us back to where we belong, it’s probably him.
