Manchester City boss spoke to The Mirror in his pre-match press conference about rumours linking Mikel Arteta to the vacant Arsenal job.

Arsenal are yet to find a permanent successor to Unai Emery and Arteta is said to be leading the race. The Spaniard played over a 100 games for us and captained the side during his five-year stay at the club.

Now at Manchester City as Pep Guardiola’s trusted number two, Arteta will return to the Emirates this weekend as an opponent but is he ready to stay there beyond the end of the game to sign the big deal with Arsenal?

Guardiola said: “You can be a 45-year-old and believe you’re not ready (to become a manager) and 35 and believe you’re ready, only he knows. I’ve spoken about the situation a few weeks ago, there’s no more to add. I said two weeks ago, he’s got two weeks more experience, so he’s ready.”

Arteta’s inexperience as a manager at the top level is the only negative for Arsenal at this moment. The Arsenal job isn’t an easy one but knowing the club well is a massive positive for him.

Learning from Pep Guardiola and Arsene Wenger is invaluable to anyone and Arteta is no different. He has handled the pressure of being our captain and he deserves a chance as a manager as well. Arsenal fans will certainly welcome him with open arms and he will get their backing to turn things around.
