Rio Ferdinand has had his say on who he’d rather have starting in goal for his side – Arsenal star Aaron Ramsdale or Manchester United new-boy Andre Onana.

The importance of a ball-playing goalkeeper in football today is higher than it has ever been before. Everyone wants a number one who’s good with his feet and the two old rivals of English football have both got one now.

Ramsdale and Onana are both brilliant, but who would Ferdinand rather have? Here’s what he said in a video on the SDS YouTube channel.

Why Pele Is Overrated.

Rio Ferdinand chooses between Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale and Manchester United’s Andre Onana

Both Aaron Ramsdale and Andre Onana are fabulous goalkeepers.

The Arsenal man has developed spectacularly since he moved to the Emirates two years ago. He went from being someone who was relegated twice to one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.

Onana has been excellent too. He has been incredible since he returned from his suspension and was one of the biggest reasons why Inter Milan made it into the Champions League final last season.

Manchester United were desperate to sign him and splashed the big bucks to get him in. Now, he’s a Premier League player, and we’ll all find out just how good he is when the going gets tough.

Ferdinand, a Manchester United legend, has made up his mind already if the debate is between Ramsdale and Onana. Unsurprisingly, he has picked the latter.

When asked to pick between the two, he said: “Onana! Because his resume tells me that he’s ahead of Ramsdale.

“I think Ramsdale’s been a huge signing for Arsenal. You’ve needed a goalkeeper that you can rely upon for a number of years now, He’s been consistent last season.

“You’re right, I think his all-round game’s very good, he’s good with his feet, he makes big saves at times, but prior to coming to Arsenal, he hasn’t had the exposure in big games and big moments to be able to really go ‘he’s going to be ahead of Onana’.”

The Insider’s View:

We’re obviously biased here, so we are going to go for Ramsdale.

The Englishman has been sensational for Arsenal over the last two years. He has saved us on numerous occasions, and if it wasn’t for him, our title challenge would’ve collapsed long before it actually did last term.

Onana has definitely accomplished more at the top level and United will be a much better side next season with the Cameroonian between the sticks.

However, we back Ramsdale to have a better campaign and Arsenal to once again finish above Manchester United.
