Arsenal will have most of their focus on potential incomings this summer, but there are a lot of contracts to sort out internally as well.

Alexandre Lacazette and Matteo Guendouzi’s deals are the most high-profile at the moment, but Mohamed Elneny’s future has to be sorted out as well before the start of next season.

My Revenge On Ben Foster

Mikel Arteta surprised everyone by reintegrating the Egyptian back into the squad when he returned from his loan last summer. Not many people expected Elneny to feature this season, but he has played a fairly big part.

The 28-year-old will enter the final year of his contract this summer and Arsenal have a decision to make. Elneny recently claimed that he is open to extending his deal (read here), and his agent has now reiterated that.

However, he has also revealed that the Egyptian has several offers on the table already amid rumours of interest from Turkish giants Galatasaray ahead of this summer’s transfer window.

Alan Nazmy told Turkish outlet Yallakora (via Football London): “Leaving to the Turkish league is among the rumours surrounding Mohamed.

“The player has a season left on his contract and we are currently working on renewing the contract. The player’s ambitions are to continue [with Arsenal], after earning the confidence of his coach Arteta. This is his first choice.”

“There are several offers for Mohamed. In the coming period, things will be decided, whether to accept one of these offers or continue to line up at Arsenal.”

The Insider’s View:

Whenever he has played this season, Elneny has been really impressive.

The Egyptian is a very useful player to have in the squad. He offers some much-needed depth to our midfield, and he is more than good enough to step up and do a job – even against the bigger sides, as we saw against Manchester United earlier this season.

Arsenal’s midfield is terribly short at the moment. If Dani Ceballos leaves this summer, we will be left with even less options, which will cause a few problems.

Keeping hold of Elneny – a player who Arteta claimed brings a ‘special’ energy to the squad – makes a lot of sense, and the fact that he is open to signing a new contract should make this deal an easy one to complete this summer.
