Arsenal legend Ian Wright spoke on Wrighty’s House podcast about the warning he gave Eddie Nketiah at the start of last season.

The young English striker is absolutely adored by Wright. The former Arsenal man has always defended his compatriot and Nketiah couldn’t possibly find a better number nine to learn from.

The 21-year-old joined Leeds United on loan at the start of last season and Wright has now revealed the strict chat he had with him right after he moved to Elland Road.

Wrighty said: “A loan deal can be beneficial to everybody, but it should be beneficial to you. You have to go there like a robot, man. This is work

“I remember saying it to Eddie Nketiah at Leeds. ‘Eddie, this is not a joke. The moment you’re in now with respect to your career, people are watching you. Everything has got to be right, you’re coming from Arsenal, if you get a chance you’ve got to take it. You’ve got to play well and people look at you as purely professional and speak about you in that way.”

Nketiah barely got the chances he deserved at Leeds but he made the most of it whenever he did. He scored five goals and picked up an assist in just four starts, and Mikel Arteta decided to bring him back.

Wright needs to have another chat with Eddie

There is absolutely no doubt about the fact that Nketiah is a fine talent. His movement is very good and his positioning inside the box is fantastic.

However, he is still a long way off from being a regular at Arsenal. He has to work a lot on his first-touch and his physical game, and that has to happen soon to avoid being sold in the summer transfer window.

Another serious chat with Wrighty could do Nketiah a world of good. The Englishman, still only 21, has all the qualities to succeed at the top level, but if he doesn’t show it to Arteta in the next few months, his Arsenal career might come to a sad end.
